Community Demonstrates Outside Home of Pittsburgh Cop

From IGD

Pittsburgh doesn’t have a police brutality problem. We have a police problem.

This problem won’t be solved by internal investigations, desk duty, body cameras, or – can you imagine? – community outreach, de-escalation training, and disarmament.

It will only be solved by the total abolition of the entire state security apparatus – cops and cameras, batons and bombs, prisons, armies, mass surveillance, and drone strikes. Nothing less will do in service of total liberation.

From Pitt to Georgia Tech: Cops Off Campus!

From Filler

On Wednesday morning, we dropped two banners at the University of Pittsburgh. They read, “From Pitt to Georgia Tech: Disarm the Police, Arm Your Desire” and “Solidarity with St. Louis and Atlanta: Fuck the Police.” The first was hung from student dorms, the second from condemned housing near campus – we hope the symbolism is clear. Later that night, after campus police arrested a student protester during coordinated disruptions of a right wing “debate” on immigration, we linked up with two other crews to beautify campus with chalk and flyers [just a heads up, the link is from a right-wing student news site, and it’s kinda hilarious]. Another crew from the autonomous student network tells us they also tagged and wheatpasted the Oakland area on Tuesday night.

Trump, Charlottesville, and the Alt-Right

The days following Charlottesville have seen a remarkable spectacle – President Donald J. Trump, of all people, getting in trouble for sticking to a principle. The principle in question, that fascists and antifa simply hold two conflicting but equally valid opinions, is of course completely insane. We should remember though, that before Charlottesville it was the default position across the mainstream political spectrum, when they bothered to acknowledge antifascism at all. Since August 12 that stance has become untenable, a basic political fact recognized by everyone but Trump. Trump is thereby ignoring the flip side of Stalin’s infamous dictum – the horrific murder of Heather Heyer by white supremacist James Fields is a tragedy, not a statistic.

Benefit Brunch 8/27 for Prison Action News

On Sunday August 27th at 11:00 AM the Big Idea Bookstore will host a benefit brunch for Prison Action News.

PAN is a biannual journal of stories of resistance to prisons, written mostly by prisoners, and printed and distributed by volunteers on the outside. Now in its tenth year, PAN enjoys a wider circulation among prisoners than ever before. However, this also means higher costs for printing and postage. All proceeds will go to defray these expenses.

So bring money, bring stamps, bring a breakfast dish to share! Enjoy free copies of the latest issue, delicious food, and much more!
